About
This "show" is the final part of the 2019 Capoeira Batizado by UCA Berkeley under the umbrella of the Capoeira Arts Foundation. The unique and special significance for this event is the fact that Mestre Acordeon and Mestra Suelly are moving from Berkeley to Albuquerque. It will be an intimate goodbye after 41 years of activity in the Bay Area.
The artists will present traditional Capoeira music, new compositions, old collaborations, entertaining stories taking us from Mestre Acordeon's home in Bahia, Brazil, to the San Francisco Bay Area. The show will also honor Mestra Suelly, the first American woman to receive the title of Mestra de Capoeira.
The "concert" will be an informal and personal celebration of capoeiristas, friends, and artists that Mestre Acordeon worked with over the years. It is also a sendoff gesture of gratitude for the community for the past four decades of support, inspiration, and camaraderie.
